Parts of an Expression

Name the parts: a sum is made of terms, a product is made of factors.

Describe it as a product of two factors, and name the factors. It is a product of two factors: 8 and (n + 9). The second factor is itself a sum of two terms, n and 9. Reading 8(n + 9) as one factor times a sum — rather than as separate pieces — is what lets you use the distributive property on it.
