Volume with Fractional Edge Lengths — Mixed

Count the cubes along each edge first, then multiply.

ExampleA box measures 4 cm by 1½ cm by 3 cm. It is packed with cubes of side ½ cm.
How many cubes fit? What is the volume of one cube? Use those to find the volume of the box, then check it with l × w × h.
8 × 3 × 6 = 144 cubes
144 × 18 = 18 cm³
Answer: 18 cm³
Along each edge the cubes fit 8, 3 and 6 times, so the box holds 144 cubes. Each cube has volume 18 cm³. Multiplying the edges the same way gives the same volume.
