A figure and its image are shown after a translation, reflection or rotation. Decide what is preserved — side lengths, angle measures and parallel sides — and what only changes position.
Two congruent figures are drawn on a grid. Describe a transformation that maps one onto the other, and explain how the rigid motion proves the figures are congruent.
Apply a translation, reflection or rotation to a figure on the coordinate plane and write the coordinates of the image. The figure is drawn on a labeled grid; the rule is stated in words.
A figure is dilated about the origin. Find the scale factor or the coordinates of the image, and explain why a dilation produces a similar — not congruent — figure.
Find a missing angle and give the reason: the angle sum of a triangle, the exterior angle, the angles made when parallel lines are cut by a transversal, and the AA test for similar triangles.
Make worksheets →Find the slope of a line from two points or from its graph, and write a line as y = mx + b by reading its slope and y-intercept (8.EE.B.5).
Compare two linear functions given in different forms (equation and table) by their rate of change or initial value.
Recognize that y = mx + b defines a linear function whose graph is a straight line, and identify functions that are nonlinear.
Construct a linear function y = mx + b from a table of values, and interpret the rate of change (slope) and the initial value.
Read a graph qualitatively — rising, falling, flat, getting steeper — say what it means in the situation, and decide whether it is linear.
