Build the meaning of multiplication with a visual model — equal groups or an array — each linked to an addition equation and a multiplication equation.
Model and interpret division: share objects equally into groups, make equal groups, and read a division expression two ways (the number in each share, or the number of shares).
Practice multiplication facts. Use the Focus buttons to drill one times-table, an easy set, or all facts to 12.
Multiply three numbers by grouping two of them first: 3 × 5 × 2 = (3 × 5) × 2 = 15 × 2 = 30, or 3 × (5 × 2) = 3 × 10 = 30. Either grouping gives the same product. The Even × Any focus applies the same regrouping to show why an even factor always makes an even product.
Break a multiplication into easier parts with the distributive property — two ways: complete the split, or use an area model.
See that a x b = b x a with arrays: the second array is the first one turned on its side, so it has the same number of dots. Fill in both products.
Fact family triangle: the top number is the product of the two bottom factors. Write the 2 multiplication and 2 division facts that connect them.
Divide within 100.
Solve multiplication and division word problems within 100 in equal-groups, array, and measurement situations — with a drawing model (multiplication or division), or as a mixed set with no model.
Solve for the unknown factor, dividend, or divisor in a one-step multiplication or division equation.
